grieving

Hi friends. It's been awhile, and well, this week I come to you with a heavy heart. Last Friday (the 15th) I received a gut-wrenching phone call, while at work, from my dad. My grandmother (grammy) had passed away unexpectedly from a heart attack. It's only been a little over a week since then, but it feels like at least a month has gone by. The future mister and I flew to Pennsylvania to be with my family, and I can't even begin to explain how emotionally exhausting it was. We are all in shock and still mourning.

I had just received her and my grandfather's reply card. A week or two later, I watched as they buried her in the dress she bought to wear to our wedding. Light green (one of our colors!) with ivory embroidered flowers. Simply heartbreaking.

In this time of loss and sorrow, I am still grateful for many things. That I was able to make it home to be with my family and that my last memory of her was giving her a hug goodbye at my Pennsylvania shower.

(Aunt Jackie, Grammy and Aunt Debbie)

She will no longer be physically present on May 21, 2011, but I know that she still "wouldn't miss it for the world."

Needless to say, my posting might continue to be light in the weeks leading up to the wedding. I've got so much more to share with you and hope to get it up here eventually, but I just don't have it in me right now. Thank you so, so much for following along during my long wedding planning journey. I've learned a lot and gotten some great feedback, advice and support. It has been such a rewarding experience!

  1. I am so sorry for your loss. My husband's grandmother passed away a couple months before our wedding, and though she had been ill for a long time, it was so hard. I send you my sincere condolences and warm thoughts.

  2. So sorry for your loss. Just remember she will be there with you in spirit. My grandfather passed in 1995, and I still miss him. We were able to incorporate one of my memories of him into our favors, so there was a physical reminder of him the day of our wedding.

  4. Heather, I'm so sorry to hear about this...my great-grandmother recently passed away (last month) so I can understand your loss. It's wonderful to hear you drawing strength from your memories and your family.

Hopefully there is a special way you can have your grandmother with you on your wedding day, a physical reminder that she is there in spirit. Or you might be lucky enough that something will happen on the day that will make you think "Oh, that was definitely Grammy!"

Good luck with the last few weeks of planning, hopefully we hear a little from you but if not, I'm sure we'll all be thinking of you on your special day! xx

  6. I am so sorry Heather, I am tearing up and have goosebumps as I'm reading this. Losing a grandparent is never easy and the timing of this just makes it that much harder. I'm so glad you were able to be with her at your shower a few weeks ago, and know that she will be with you and looking down on you on your wedding day.
