rsvp help

I need some help y'all. I've been neck deep in invitations for the past few weeks and am just about ready to start printing my RSVP cards. I thought I had it all figured out, but now I'm second guessing myself.

Here's the original wording:

We have reserved ___ seats in your honor

Name(s): ______________________

___ Wouldn't miss it for the world!

___ Will toast you from afar

My concern is that if we invite Mr. and Mrs. Joe Blow, indicating on their RSVP that we have reserved 2 seats for them, and only Mrs. Blow intends to come will they know that they are only supposed to write Mrs. Blow's name on the name line? Or what if Mrs. Blow thinks that since 2 seats are reserved for them and Mr. Blow can't come, that it's okay to bring Katie Blow who isn't invited to the wedding? Or am I just being crazy?

I did some research and discussed it with the future mister and here are the two other options that we are now considering.

Option 1:

We have reserved ___ seats in your honor

Name(s): ______________________

___ Wouldn't miss it for the world!
___ Number attending

___ Will toast you from afar

Option 2:

Name(s): ______________________

___ Wouldn't miss it for the world!
___ out of ___ attending

___ Will toast you from afar

Thoughts? Suggestions? Your help is much appreciated!

  1. I think your original plan is fine. Guests will know that number of seats reserved are only for those listed on the invitation, and will write in the names of only those who can actually make it. In the case of a couple, I think it's very rare that one person would make it but not the other. If there was any confusion, you could always personally follow up with them, too. If you really want to add more clarification, I think your second option with the "number attending" line would be all right. But the "out of" addition might seem a bit awkward to the guests.

  2. we didn't list how many seats were reserved ad people got it. if their name is on the envelope, they are invited. if not, they get it :)

  3. I agree with what's been said. I think, from hearing such terrible nightmare stories of unthinkable guests, us bride-to-be's overthink the RSVPs too much (I'm guilty!). I think guests will know just to write their name on the line if they're attending. If you're in doubt about anything, just follow up with them. Best of luck!

  4. Well, I'm more obsessive about the whole invitation thing... so, ours have the names of the people who are invited and then a place to check off if they're coming or not (similar to these: http://roadtotheaisle.blogspot.com/2008/04/theyre-ready-for-their-close-up.html). But, honestly, I think your guests will probably figure it out! :)

  5. i definitely like option 2. i think it'll help you have less confusion :) i agree with jacin too though. it's etiquette that only the people whose names are on the envelope are invited.

  6. I think the original wording is fine, too...we always overthink these things and no matter what SOMEONE is going to do something wrong or be confusing anyway.
